Lying in her bed long after dark
Dreaming when she should have been asleep
Starlight dancing on the ceiling
Morphing shapes of memories to keep
Wishing for a Cinderella future
As young girls are wont to do
Hoping it includes the cute boy next door
And a sweet little baby or two
Seeing the struggle of her parents
Working hard just to make ends meet
Too many bills and too many children
Yielding to a life of defeat
Watching a shooting star disappear
Making hopeless wishes, it seems
Clutching all the delicious reverie
In a stargazer's heart of dreams
As slumber embarks, her head is filled
With sundry wishes, dreams and plans
Smiling as she falls asleep
Placing her future in God's loving hands
