We gather on this Christmas Eve In a place inviting and warm With room for all to worship Sheltered from the winter storm The choir is singing Silent Night As the wind howls ferociously If not for another night like this I wonder where we all would be My mind regresses to a stable Where a Babe in a manger lay First born of the Virgin Mary His blanket a scattering of hay A Mother's arms to give Him warmth Animal noises were His lullaby Rejoicing as the King of Kings Breathed a soft and gentle cry Angels sang on that holy night When the shepherds saw the star Shining brightly above the stable Guiding wise men from afar All is calm on this Christmas Eve Our sanctuary keeps the storm at bay Knowing Jesus is our lasting shelter And why we celebrate Christmas Day Kathleen McCoy Eldridge© December 7, 2008 All Rights Reserved
