Bessie May moved in like a whirlwind
A jovial woman who was never discontented
Easily managing several chores at one time
Was multi-tasking before the term was invented
Cooking great meals and packing school lunches
The housemaid handled it all with great ease
She vacuumed and dusted and washed up the dishes
And made doing housework seem a breeze
Known to load the washer and unload the dryer
And at the same time watch Days Of Our Lives
Managing soap in the washer and on the TV screen
She was the envy of all the neighborhood wives
Bessie worked for several families over the years
Raising their kids and keeping them all fed and clean
An honest, God-fearing hard-working gal
Her reputation was more than pristine
As a senior citizen and physically unable to work
She felt hopeful about all the friends she'd made
But they turned out to be only fair-weather friends
Who deserted her when she couldn't make the grade
So, struggling along on a meager monthly pension
Bessie barely kept the wolf from her door
She actually got the last laugh on all her old "friends"
The day she found out she was no longer poor
For you see, she is now a lady of leisure
Who won millions in the lottery jackpot
She bought herself a mansion; got a maid of her own
And changed her moniker to "Bessie May Not"
