Summer days are winding down
Fall is quickly drawing near
Leaves are turning golden hues
As when you were here
Nippy mornings, warm afternoons
Fill my heart with longing
Of times now past but not forgotten
And a feeling of belonging
Smoke rising from the chimneys at dusk
Rings trailing up to the sky
I think of you and how you're gone
But I no longer wonder why
The loss of love never understood
Long weighed my heart with grief
Until God revealed to me His plan
And gave me blessed relief
So, this year as the seasons change
Their wondrous beauty to impart
I'll live this life God granted me
And hold you in my autumn heart
