Today, we remember loved ones and friends Who have long since departed this Earth Many times, it's only after they're gone That we come to realize their actual worth We're all guilty of taking people for granted Seeming to think that they'll always be there Just busy with life and procrastinating Until it's too late to let them know that we care On this national day of commemoration Missing those who were a part of our existence Wondering if we really gave them our best Or unwittingly kept them at a distance We give tokens of love and remembrance By placing flowers at the places where they sleep All the while feeling comforted in knowing That they are now safely held in God's keep Kathleen McCoy Eldridge© May 17, 2007 All Rights Reserved
