Frank & America Hatfield McCoy with son, Woodrow

High up on the closet shelf
I found a box all dusty and worn
Chocked full of family photographs
And picture albums aged and torn
I had come here for the funeral
And to close down our old homeplace
We'd buried Mom the day before
And there were problems Dad had to face
Old and weary, he still insisted
That he could take care of himself
I thought I'd found a place for him
Till I discovered that closet shelf
Seeing our lives pass before my eyes
With those visions of our family
I realized what I wanted to do
So Dad came to live with me
When I need a walk down memory lane
And wonder where those years all went
I look at Dad and those keepsakes
Where they chronicled most every event
