Fading Away
My soul is weary, my movements slow
And my days grow fewer and fewer
The house has fallen into disarray
Both ghosts of when we were newer

Time has slipped away from us
Merely shadows of what we were
We can't go back and relive the past
Nor always have what we prefer

The front gate hangs from rusty hinges
Weeds have strangled all the flowers
Life is rapidly fading from both of us
As we while away the hours

Thoughts of the past so bittersweet
Flow gently through my mind
Thinking of friends and loved ones
Who will soon be left behind

Once standing proud and beautiful
Weathered and gloomy to my dismay
Our days on Earth will soon be o'er
As we are both surely fading away
