I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord.
~ Psalm 122:1 - King James Version
I have heard several testimonies from people about how their mother made them go to church when they were children. Most of the people said that they were glad that they had to go to church when they were children. Three people said that they were not glad that they were made to go to church because as soon as they got home from church their parents starting yelling at one another and at them.
These three people told me that they had to listen to their parents criticizing
the pastor and the sermon every time they came home from church.
It is no wonder at all that children don't want to go to church if
they don't see Jesus in their parent's actions and hear Jesus in their parent's
words when they come home from church. We, as parents, must make going to church
an exciting day for our children!
If our children see the eagerness and the excitement that we have, they will want to go to church also. We should not use going to church as a form of punishment. In fact, we should do just the opposite and tell our children that it is a privilege given to us by God to go worship Him in His house. Are you making it an exciting day for your children when you go to church?
Are you complaining about having to get up so early to go to church?
What a sad commentary it is on those of us who claim to be Christians
(cleansed by the precious atoning blood of Jesus) that we don't have
any problems getting up early to go on vacation but we are reluctant
to get up early to go to church. May God have mercy on us!
