Perhaps there was a reason
Why the time was never right
For us to be a "couple"...
Way back then I thought we might



Perhaps I was too subtle
I should have looked you in the eye
And told that I loved you
And suggest that we should try



Perhaps it was that fate stepped in
And had a little part
To make sure we stayed "just friends"
Protecting both our hearts



Perhaps we needed time to grow
And emotionally get strong
To keep ourselves from sorrow
Of another love gone wrong



Perhaps there'll be a time in life
If ever we both are free
No other's hearts we'd have to hurt
So together we can be.
